Karui är formgiven av den dansk-italienska designerstudion GamFratesi. Brickorna är tillverkade genom trycksvarvning, en gammal produktionsteknik. Lädret kommer från det ledande svenska garveriet Tärnsjö, kända för sin höga kvalitet och beläget nära Skultuna i norra Västmanland.

Stine Gam säger om designfilosofi för faten: Brickorna kallas Karui / 軽 い som på japanska betyder mjuk men också lätt. Japanskan ger andra betydelser också, såsom "lätt / enkelhet” som är den informella känsla vi vill förmedla med Karui-faten. Formgiven år 2015
